What is your approach to collaboration, and what do you believe are the key elements to successful teamwork?

My approach to collaboration is communication, you have the potential to gain so much more out of it that way. Key elements for successful teamwork would have to be a comfortable, friendly, respectful environment. Feeling respected and trusted in a team is going to help others feel comfortable communicating.

What’s a hobby or activity you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t yet?

I always wanted to be a part of a flash mob. I haven’t looked into it yet in what is required, but definitely something I would love to try. It might be more realistic to witness one in person knowing my dancing skills. I would probably be laughing the whole time and wouldn’t be able to blend in with the mob or follow the beat of the music but I think it would be so fun. The energy and outcome of the teamwork would be enjoyable to experience. Maybe puppy or goat yoga is a better hobby to try first.

Can you tell us about a person or experience that has had a significant impact on your life or career path, and how that has influenced your outlook on work and life in general?

Was told growing up and even to this day “don’t do something today that you can’t explain tomorrow.” It has kept me thinking full circle when making decisions and when deciding something and to be sure to think it through.  I am almost positive it’s not intended to be applied when you’re deciding to bring home a new dog or pet.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you at work, and did it involve a stapler or a coffee spill?

Definitely no stapler or coffee spill, more like a panic scream. Now that some time has passed, I can laugh about it. I was “surprise gifted” an unmarked box on my desk from a coworker. Upon opening carefully, it was not one but TWO Madagascar hissing cockroaches! After being grossed out followed by a panic scream, we bought a little home for them and called them Linky and Heimer. They became office pets until relocated to SSU. No insects were harmed during this unboxing.
